CRM sales analytics: what to track first.

A practical set of CRM metrics for spotting changes in sales without living inside a dozen dashboards.

  1. Start with the outcome

Look at revenue, won deals and average deal value for a comparable period. Together they show whether the result changed because fewer deals closed or because the value of each sale moved.

  2. Break the funnel into stage conversions

Overall conversion hides where the problem is. Measure the transitions that matter in your process: new lead to contact, contact to proposal, proposal to won deal. This shows where the result actually changed.

  3. Add speed metrics

Conversion is only half the picture. Track time to first response, time spent in key stages and sales-cycle length. Slower movement often appears before a visible revenue drop.

  4. Use segments after you know what changed

Once the changed metric is clear, split it by rep, source, product or region. Segmentation should locate the change, not become a shortcut to blaming a person or channel.

  5. Put data quality next to the metric

Every report should show whether CRM data is fresh and complete. If deals stopped updating or required fields are missing, flag the data issue before drawing a conclusion about sales performance.
