Sales manager performance metrics from CRM data.
How to compare sales reps without falling into the “who closed the most deals is best” trap.
Make the incoming work comparable
Rep comparisons only make sense when lead quality, products and time periods are comparable. A rep working warm repeat customers should not be ranked directly against someone handling cold inbound leads.
Track conversion at controllable stages
Compare transitions the rep can actually influence: first contact, qualification, proposal and close. This shows where the working process differs instead of reducing performance to one final number.
Include speed
Time to first response, stage duration and the share of deals with no next action reveal process discipline earlier than revenue does.
Separate activity from quality
Calls and tasks are activity, not the outcome. Use them diagnostically alongside conversion, average deal value and won revenue rather than turning raw activity into a standalone leaderboard.
Check CRM data quality before ranking people
If one rep records loss reasons and dates while another does not, their reports will look different even when their real work is similar. Measure data completeness before comparing performance.
